It all begins over a coffee in Algiers, between two neighboring spaces at the heart of the city. Two structures : El Mahatta, an independent artistic space dedicated to music, and Mon Autre École, a space founded in 2013, dedicated to visual arts and the support of emerging artists. They cross paths, talk, listen to one another, and build connections. Then a third space emerges: a dialogue, a shared ground, neither entirely one nor the other, an echo to be imagined together. TCHEBBEK is born — PLUNGE in Darija. To dive, but also to connect, to grow together, to work as one and build a network.
A space for research and creation, constantly evolving and able to adapt, both physical and immaterial. It moves across disciplines, places, and objectives, prioritizing experimentation in order to impulse a collective dynamic. TCHEBBEK also represents a pilot collaboration conceived as a starting point for an open and evolving model of collective practices. Its ambition is to connect spaces, artists, and initiatives; to encourage the sharing of resources, practices, and knowledge; and to strengthen connections between artistic spaces through the creation of a map of Algiers’ artistic venues—a living tool for identification, connection, and visibility and an invitation to create together around more coffees.
Since 2025, TCHEBBEK has been collaborating with the Institut français d’Algérie through the Mawjaat program.
